Location of Sosian Lodge Laikipia
Sosian lies in the heart of the wild Laikipia plateau, Kenya’s High Country, only 50km from the equator in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. The private ranch is 24,000 acres with access to a total of 75,000 acres of game viewing. Laikipia is often regarded as one of the best regions in terms of overall safari experience. Removed from the frequently overused tourist trails, Laikipia offers safari guests pure unadulterated wilderness. The ultimate safari experience, in an area of untainted wilderness yet to be claimed by civilisation. As a network of privately owned ranches, Laikipia serves as one of the world’s most important conservation sites. Sharing the land harmoniously between wildlife and the ranches has, as a consequence, significantly benefitted the locals as well as tourism in the area. With the land managed by the patchwork of ranches and wildlife conservations, the wildlife population density has dramatically increased from year to year. Laikipia for example is home to the second largest population of elephants as well as the only area to have a growing population of wild dog.
The area is completely unfenced and wildlife roams freely across open plains and forested riverines. The area itself does not exist as a national park however with the growing success of the wildlife conservations, Laikipia is one of Kenya’s golden treasures. With a high altitude of nearly 6000 feet, Sosian has no record of malaria making it attractive for everyone, especially families. The seclusion of the land gained through the private conservations lends to a more authentic safari experience. Away from the heavily tourism based larger parks, in the quieter, peaceful corners of Kenya a wider range of activities are available to guests. Riding for example might be limited, if not unavailable at the larger national parks.
As well as being able to land into Sosian’s private airstrip, guests can arrive by road either from Loisaba airstrip (1 hour’s drive) or Nanyuki airstrip (2 hour’s drive) where you can land with scheduled flights from Nairobi’s international or domestic airport.
