A Typical Day on a Kenyan Safari
A day on Kenyan Safari at Sosian lodge always starts bright and early. Guests are awoken to the dawn chorus and enjoy a warm cup of tea as the world wakes up. Following a quick bite of fruit, it is off out either on foot, in the open cars or on the horses, to see what the morning will bring. Every day is different but one hopes to see Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, possibly Wild Dog and an array of plains game. Alongside the animals, Sosian boasts over 350 different species of bird and new and exciting species are sure to be seen by the guests.
All the guests then meet up back at the lodge to enjoy a hearty English breakfast.
As the day heats up it is time to head to the river to cool off. For the adventurers amongst you, leaping off Sosian’s 30ft waterfall is a huge highlight. Alternatively one can swim in the pools below or relax and float down the river on rubber tubes.
With ourselves feeling refreshed and our adrenaline fixes cared for, it is time for a delicious picnic lunch on the banks of the river. We are often joined by elephants coming down to drink and the birdlife by the after lunch. Fishing is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the scenery but still with a purpose! As the day gets to its hottest, it is time to head back to the lodge for a swim in the pool, to read your book or simply to have a well earned siesta!
After a cup of tea and a delicious slice of cake it is time to head out again. We make our way to the camel boma. Here camels have been saddled up and guests can enjoy riding the camels through the bush alongside Zebra, Hartebeest, Impala and Eland. This activity always provides huge entertainment to the children amongst us. With everyone dismounted we continue on a short game drive to where we will have dinner under the stars.
There is nothing better than sitting around the camp fire whilst on your Kenyan Safari, sipping a Gin and Tonic and looking up at the African stars. After a dinner of Fillet Steak cooked over the fire, it is time for a night drive. Using a spotlight, we hope to see a variety of nocturnal animals including Genet Cats, Aardvarks, Mongooses and hopefully a Leopard.
Guests can then either choose to head back to the lodge for the night or to sleep under the stars. Incredibly comfortable bed rolls are laid out by the fire and guests can fall asleep to the sounds of the African night with nothing but the stars above them. So there you have it, a typical day on a Kenyan Safari at Sosian Lodge.
