Activities
AT SOSIAN
|
Sosian has amazing wildlife, all of Africa's large mammals apart from rhino are here. Elephant, giraffe, hippos, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, African wild dog, zebra, antelopes, warthogs and a plethora of beautiful birds. Sosian is incredibly diverse and there are so many different activities to enjoy whilst game watching which makes it a very special place and a good contrast to Kenya's national parks where one tends to be limited to viewing game from a vehicle.
Early wake up at 06.30 with a cup of tea or coffee brought to your room
After a quick light breakfast, a morning game drive, stopping for a walk led by a professional guide, a chance to learn about tracking and the smaller details of the bush. Or a morning ride on horses or camels.
Picnic brunch on the side of the river, then return to the lodge to relax by the pool or siesta.
After tea an evening drive, or fishing expedition, sundowners on top of a hill overlooking miles of African wilderness followed by a night drive with a spotlight in search of leopard, porcupine and more exciting nocturnal animals.
Back at the lodge, a quick shower and then a 3 course dinner in the cosy dining room with an open fire. |

Sosian is inextricably linked with the infamous Tristan and Lucinda Voorspuy who pioneered riding safaris in Kenya 25 years ago and now run the most exciting horse back safaris in Africa. It was Tristan´s idea to turn Sosian from a derelict tract of land into a game ranch and his passion for conservation has seen the complete transformation of Sosian over the last 8 years, together with the rest of the owners who Tristan originally rallied together. Sosian is home to 18 horses and going for a ride is one of the most wonderful ways of blending into the bush and seeing wildlife.

Camels are a familiar sight in Northern Kenya and have been farmed here for hundreds of years. Not only are they very hardy, tasty and providers of lots of milk for northern Kenyan farmers, they are friendly and wonderful to ride as they provide such a great vantage point from which to see the bush.
|
Sosian has all the atmosphere of a private home and welcomes children of all ages. Often a safari can open up a child's mind to the natural world as well as a whirlwind of adventure while being an educational holiday of a lifetime.
|
Fly-camping means sleeping outdoors in a very simple camp, eating under the stars around a camp-fire and falling asleep listening to the noises of the African bush. At Sosian we offer small private groups the opportunity to do exactly this, quite different to staying in the lodge and a completely unique experience.

TYou cannot get closer to nature than by being on foot amongst it and walking enables you to see so much more detail. Tracks on the ground, scratch marks on trees, droppings, a fresh kill, birds calling in alarm at the sound of a nearby snake, baboons shouting as they catch sight of a leopard. The smell of an acacia in blossom, the scent of long, dry grass underfoot on an early morning walk. Walking is a completely different experience and a wonderful way to see the bush. It can be both exciting and serenely peaceful, depending on what is happening on the day. Sosian is fortunate to have one of Africa’s most experienced walking guides leading most of our walks, Steve Carey has been in the game for 18 years and walking is his favourite way of exploring the bush.
For keen walkers or just adventurous spirits, overnight walking safaris are available at Sosian, venture out on foot and take a tent with you, camp by a spring and listen to the sounds of the African night. Or if you want a real adventure, go for a multi day Sosian Walking Expedition, spend 3 nights exploring this part of western Laikipia on foot, camping along the way in our custom made fly-camp, cold drinks, hot showers and top notch guiding are safari essentials so you needn´t feel you have to rough it or compromise on quality, this is a different experience.
