Sosian – What you can expect in January from our Safari Lodge in Kenya!
As festivities draw to a close, what better way to dodge the January blues than to escape to our luxury safari lodge in Kenya! Clear, hot days and warm nights make January the perfect month to explore Laikipia.
Although Kenya’s temperate equatorial climate makes for an ideal year round destination, during the dry season mosquitos are at their least bothersome and an exotic array of animals are more easily tracked down. As an abundance of wildlife congregate near watering holes to drink, wallow and cool off, their movements are more predictable making them are easier to spot.
What can you expect?
Every day on safari is different, but you can hope to see all manner of species ranging from buffalo to lions and even wild dogs if you’re lucky! The Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe are among some of the extremely rare species that roam the plains. The vast, grassy Laikipia plateau boasts Kenya’s second largest elephant population and is also home to a variety of game including Beisa oryx, Grant’s gazelle, ostrich and cheetah. As vegetation withers and landscapes become dry, big game viewing is at its peak as predators are more readily revealed while they stalk their prey in the short, dry grasses. The calving season also begins giving our guests the chance to spot some new arrivals during their January stay at our safari lodge in Kenya.
As the heat of the day peaks, wallowing by the river is not just for the animals… at Sosian Lodge you can head down to the river to cool off and relax, or for the more adventurous we have the exhilarating leap from our own 30ft waterfall!
With its rich tapestry of wildlife and endless possibilities, Laikipia is fast becoming one of the most highly regarded regions to safari in Kenya. With January offering some of the best conditions there are, we can’t think of a better way to bring in the New Year than on Safari at Sosian!
