Sosian Lodge is a luxury Safari Lodge located at the heart of the Laikipia Plateau in Kenya. 24000 acres of wilderness to be discovered still untainted by western development, Sosian walking safaris are truly awe inspiring. Walking is one of the most intimate, unobtrusive ways to explore the bush, placing yourself at the heart of the wilderness. No safari is ever the same, however here is how a typical Kenya walking safari could unfold.
How your first day is spent upon arriving at Sosian is entirely at your discretion. After arriving at our local airstrip, the drive to the lodge will be the first exposure to Laikipia’s beauty. Lunch is served by the pool, followed by time to relax and enjoy the facilities available at the Lodge. As the height of the afternoon sun passes guests can walk to a number of locations with stunning views, enjoying the popular tradition of sundowners. Finally, on return to the lodge, supper is served by the fireside.
Early mornings are the best times to venture out into the bush. The wildlife is more active at certain periods of the day, mainly early mornings and evenings during points when temperatures are lower. Guests will likely be granted with incredible sightings of elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, zebra, many antelope and all of the big cats. Sosian is well known for the growing population of Wild Dog in the area. Sosian is also part of the Laikipia Predator Project. Consequently, guests have the opportunity to track lions and wild dogs whilst on safari.
However guests choose to spend their mornings, whether that is in the bush or at the Lodge, there is always a full breakfast to be had at Sosian. Depending on the itinerary of the safari, breakfast could be served by the riverside, or at a stopping point along the journey. The one constant feature is that each day breakfast is served with a spectacular view.
Different places to stay
Across the entire safari there are numerous locations that will become our camps for a night or two. This is due to the distance covered. These include nights in open thatched bandas and Starbeds (four poster beds under the African night sky). Time is also spent in a traditional tented safari camp. All are designed to make the most of the stunning, all encompassing scenery and ensure a memorable night in the bush.
A Kenya walking safari with Sosian Lodge can be tailored so the itinerary suits you and your group. These are just a few of the things you might be exposed to during your safari. Words cannot fully express the incredible experience of a safari. Finally, have a look at our gallery to get a glimpse of the surrounding Kenyan beauty.
