More than 300 species of birds and 70 species of mammal can be found here.
Sosian supports a number of rare species such as the endemic Jackson's hartebeest, Grevy's zebra (80% of the population is found in Laikipia), and reticulated giraffe. Even endangered wild dogs, thought to be extinct in Laikipia, have returned to the area in healthy numbers and are occasionally seen on Sosian.
There is a wide variety of ecosystems on Sosian: open grass plains, acacia woodlands, and lush riverine vegetation along the Ewaso Narok River. Each of these areas offers interesting and varied game and bird viewing. |

Sosian has encouraged the return of wild game to the area and has removed all of its fences to allow wildlife to move freely through the ranch.
Sosian supports the Laikipia Predator Project in their effort to conserve the area's lions by monitoring and reporting their activity on the ranch. In addition, Sosian uses unique predator-friendly ranching methods that reduce human-predator conflict.
